Fairport's Cropredy Convention - 11, 12, 13 August 2005

T & Latouche - Featuring T Carthy and Glen Latouche (the charismatic frontmen of reggae-folk fusion Edward II), this exciting band will get Cropredy on its feet to dance! Expect a great party atmosphere &endash; funky roots-reggae grooves featuring great harmonies and blistering brass. Beth Nielsen Chapman The first Cropredy appearance by Nashville-based Beth Nielsen Chapman who is equally well-known as a fantastic songwriter and a great live performer. Country Joe McDonald and his band Headlining on Thursday 11 August, Country Joe is a great musician and entertainer. This is a rare chance to see this legendary bandleader and songwriter in the UK. Find out more on Country Joe's website. Richard Thompson Friday 12 August features a headline solo performance by former Fairport member Richard Thompson. As well as playing on Friday, Richard will join Fairport on stage during the band's set on Saturday evening. Jah Wobble "A maverick talent, the bass-toting equivalent of Clint Eastwood's gunslinger" as The Observer put it, Jah Wobble shot to fame with Public Image. The Dylan Project Great musicianship and a fabulous repertoire. Steve Gibbons interprets Bob Dylan's songs backed by PJ Wright on slide and pedal steel, Simon Nicol on guitar, and Dave Pegg on bass. Edwina Hayes Talented young singer-songwriter Edwina Hayes has a beautiful voice and great stage presence. Hilary James & Simon Mayor Mandolin virtuosi and talented multi-instrumentalists, Simon and Hilary will perform a beguiling mix of songs and tunes. While and Matthews Cropredy favourites Chris While and Julie Mathews will bring their unique blend of superb musicianship, wonderful vocal harmony and great self-penned songs. The Hamsters A welcome return to Cropredy for The Hamsters. This rocking three-piece was described by Bob Harris as "...fabulous, one of Britain's very best live bands." The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain The Ukulele Orchestra will be playing great music performed with brio &endash; and not a banjo in sight! "Awesome" &endash; Time Out. Richard Digance Ever-popular with the Cropredy crowd, Richard Digance is back &endash; enjoy the music, humour and audience participation. Tickled Pink Energetic English dance music that'll have you on your feet. Tickled Pink features Cropredy stage manager Simon Care on melodeon. Uiscedwr The three young members of award-winning Uiscedwr perform a wide variety of material with tremendous energy, passion and style.

. . . and. of course

Saturday 13 August will feature the customary extended set by Fairport Convention. Chris, Dave, Gerry, Ric and Simon will take the stage at about 8pm with 'sixth member' Rob Braviner in charge of the sound desk. During the set, Fairport will be joined by many guest artists and the repertoire will be wide-ranging.


Cambridge Folk Festival 2005

 

The dates for the 2005 Festival are Thursday 28 - Sunday 31 July.

Tickets for the 2005 Festival will go on sale on Sunday 1 May.

Main venues, camping, car parks, caterers, bars and box office are all on the Oldbury Wells School campus.

There are several venues in Bridgnorth town centre, which are within easy walking distance, but there is a FREE festival bus service if you need it.
